Scandium sulphite, Sc2(SO3)3

Scandium sulphite, Sc2(SO3)3, is obtained as a white precipitate by mixing solutions of scandium chloride and sodium sulphite (Crookes); by passing sulphur dioxide through an aqueous suspension of scandium hydroxide, the hexahydrate Sc2(SO3)3.6H2O, may be obtained. It is soluble in aqueous ammonium sulphite, and by evaporating the solution in an atmosphere of sulphur dioxide, scandium ammonium sulphite, Sc2(SO3)3.(NH4)2SO3.7H2O, is obtained (Meyer and Drapier).
